Riviera

This is the movie theater where I remember seeing my first movie, "Peter Pan" with my grandparents. It was a wonderful art deco movie house located in Loiza Street in front of the old Shannon's Pub. According to books on local architecture, it was one of the most beautiful examples of art deco in Puerto Rico. For years it was a first run theater, then a second run one showing double features. It closed down in the early 1980's and it slowly faded away. The photo you see is of its last days, when it was run down, but still maintained a certain majesty to it.
Unfortunately it was destroyed in 2001 to make way for an atrocious looking building.
